Defenders of the Faith, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-sectarian, non-partisan organization of persons who are using their resources to educate Roman Catholics in the orthodox practice of their faith. We are not an affiliate of any other organization. The primary purpose of Defenders of the Faith, Inc., is to educate Roman Catholics in the orthodox practice of their faith through the publication of a quarely newsletter, The Defender. In addition, we own and operate a low power FM radio station, WDTF-LP, broadcasting Catholic programming as suggested by Pope John Paul II to undertake a 'new evangelization'.
The Defender is an education newsletter published four times per year and provided free to those that want to defend their faith. WDTF-LP is a low power FM radio station broadcasting Catholic programming 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Our station is located in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and although it is limited by the FCC to 100 Watts of power our broadcast reaches to Hancock, Maryland and parts of Pennsylvania. Our programming content is provided by Relevant Radio located in Green Bay Wisconsin. Our readers are encouraged to visit their website, www.relevantradio.com. to locate a station near them or to listen to the programming via the Internet. We, of The Defender, are privileged to have the following notable priests as our consultants.Rev. Franklyn M. McAfee
Father McAfee is pastor of St. Catherine of Sienna Parish, Great Falls, Virginia, in the Diocese of Arlington. He is the National Spiritual Director of the Lay Missionaries of Charity in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. He is also confessor to two convents of Missionaries of Charity sisters.
He was born on December 13, 1943 and ordained on May 15, 1971. Father McAfee received a Bachelor of Philosophy and a Doctor of Theology from Catholic University of America, a Master of Arts from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and a Doctor of Divinity from Notre Dame Institute.
Each Sunday his 10:30 A.M. Mass is a Solemn High Mass, and we would all be well rewarded by joining in the celebration. It is the Novus ordo missae (new order of Mass) done exactly as the Second Vatican Council desired it to be celebrated; some parts in English and other parts in Latin. It is an awesome experience!
Rev. George Parker
Father Parker taught high school Latin in the public school system of the Boston, Mass. area, for 23 years before his vocation to the priesthood was discerned.
In the mid sixties he was active in the Catholic Inter-racial Council. He participated in the march to Selma, Alabama with Dr. Martin Luther King.
In 1980 he entered the seminary at Dunwoodie, New York for his priestly studies.
He was ordained a deacon by Cardinal Cooke of the Arch-diocese of New York on December 12, 1982 and was ordained as a priest on May 28, 1983.
He was assigned to the Norwich, Connecticut Diocese and served there until 1997. While in Norwich he declined to accept a $5,000 check from Senator Dodd of Conn. for the parochial school in his parish because of the Senator’s pro-abortion voting record in the United States Senate. He was demoted by his bishop to an associate pastor and soon accepted an offer from Father Marx of Human Life International.
He has traveled all over the world in the pro-life field of endeavor, and is currently with the Population Research Institute, continuing his fight for the rights of the unborn children of the world.
Rev. Frank A. Pavone
Father Frank A. Pavone was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of New York by John Cardinal O’Connor in 1988. In 1993, with the Cardinal’s permission, he became national director of Priests for Life.
He has spoken in all 50 states and five continents, helping priests and others fight abortion. He produces radio programs for Mother Angelica’s station, EWTN, the Vatican Radio, and numerous other outlets. His writings on pro-life topics are published worldwide.
Mother Teresa asked him to speak in India on life issues. He was invited to address the pro-life caucus of the United States House of Representatives. In 1997, the Vatican appointed him to the Pontifical Council for the Family, which coordinates the pro-life activities of the Catholic Church.
In 1998 Father Pavone received into the Catholic Church, Norma McCorvey. She is the former “Jane Roe” of the Supreme Court’s abortion decision Roe vs. Wade. Norma is now pro-life.
In 2001 he received the Proudly Pro-life Award from the National Right to Life Committee.
