 VOL. 13, NO. 1
Jan - Jun 2010

Dear Readers:

Our Catholic Teaching in this issue is about a sacramental used by Catholics to a varying degree. Many will use it only once per week when they go to Mass. Others will use it numerous times a day. The sacramental I refer to is the Sign of the Cross. The intention of the article is to take advantage of the power of this prayer and motivate everyone to use it as frequently as possible.

Many publications have written about the attack on the Pope by the media. We didn’t want to simply repeat what other publications are saying but to emphasize the reason why the media is on the attack. This pope is coming out more and more strongly against those who falsify the Faith and lead the flock away. He has demonstrated this includes the shepherds within the Church. Journalists see this as a threat to adulterous and homosexual lifestyles.

Our key article is called The Terrible Legacy of the Pill. News stories from the mainstream media have been ‘celebrating’ 50 years of the birth control pill. All of them have touted the tremendous health benefits, even claiming use of the pill decreases the risk of ovarian cancer and uterine cancer. In reality studies show the pill increases the risk of cancers of the breast, liver and cervix. More than twice as many American women die every year from cancers caused by the pill than from cancers it may prevent. Our article reveals the real truth of the pill and at the same time offers a healthy alternative called Natural Family Planning. This article explains how contraception has led to abortion, a general lowering of moral standards, an increase in infidelity, ever-greater objectification of women, smaller and more broken families, rampant homosexuality and pornography. We point out how many of the American clergy fought against Humanae Vitae and still do. We elaborate on how Father Paul Marx, the Apostle for Life, devoted his life to fighting the pill and was quite prophetic in predicting the results of the pill.

Coincidently, we felt we should give honor to Father Marx following his death a few months ago at the age of 90. It is likely he will be remembered as the founder of the pro-life movement. He began his pro-life work before Roe v. Wade. He wrote 13 books, one selling over a million copies. He traveled to 90 countries proclaiming the pro-life message. He held numerous conventions for the pro-life movement. He formed several organizations including Human Life International and Population Research Institute, all for the purpose of defending life.

The Modern Day Saint is the story of Blessed Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio, born in Sahuayo, Mexico. He was a boy during the during the terrible Cristero war of 1926-1928 when the Mexican government persecuted all Catholics in Mexico. Calling themselves “Cristeros,” the ranchers, workers, students, Indians and others rebelled against the anti-Catholic, Masonic government. They held off the Mexican Army for three years until the United States brokered a ceasefire. Young Jose Luis volunteered for the Army at the age of 13. He was eventually captured and later executed by the Mexican Army when he refused to renounce Jesus. He died like many of the Cristeros, shouting “Viva Cristo Rey.”
